Don’t Just Throw Your Used NEC Parts & Equipment Away!

Sunday, April 3, 2011business

When you are disposing of your old NEC computer or its parts it is important to remember to never, under any circumstances, simply throw them away. Used NEC parts should always be recycled rather than discarded because many of the parts contain toxic substances, most notably lead. Monitors, CPUs, various chips and cooling systems, and so forth should always be disposed of properly rather than just tossed into a waste basket to rot in a landfill when you have no more use for them. However, the problem with recycling electronic parts is that it is simply not always very easy or practical for a small business or an individual. Some states have passed laws banning the improper disposal of electronic parts, but few agencies have made it any easier on the average consumer.

Fortunately NEC offers its own recycling program to get rid of old used NEC parts and appliances. Their program consists of trading in the old equipment to receive a discount on a replacement item or a new model. Functional parts and equipment will, of course, get you a better rate than broken equipment, but either way it is a good deal for someone looking to save money and give the environment a break for once.

Another option available to you is to donate your old equipment instead of throwing it away. Some nonprofits, schools and other organizations will accept old or broken equipment and refurbish them on their own to service low income organizations and communities. This option requires you to do a little more research than simply logging on the company website, but at the same time it also has additional benefits to your community that can outweigh the slight inconvenience of tracking down a potential place to donate the items.
